Fabric Data Foundation

Fabric Data Foundation is our managed data warehouse service built on Microsoft Fabric. We design the warehouse, bring your data into OneLake from the systems you already run, deploy it with proper environments and version control, and then keep it running: monitoring pipelines, managing capacity and cost, applying changes safely and keeping Power BI fast on top of it.

  • Warehouse and lakehouse design on Microsoft Fabric and OneLake
  • Pipelines from your existing databases, applications and files
  • Deployed with dev, test and production environments and Git
  • Ongoing monitoring, fixes, capacity and cost management
  • Direct Lake Power BI models on top, fast by design

One home for your business data

Once a business runs more than a handful of systems, reporting straight from each of them stops working. Numbers disagree, refreshes collide with the working day, and every new question needs another export. A data warehouse fixes that by giving your data one governed, reliable home that every report draws from.

Microsoft Fabric brings the whole of that platform — storage, pipelines, warehouse, lakehouse and Power BI — into a single service billed as one capacity. Fabric Data Foundation is how we put it to work for you: we design it, deploy it, and then run it, so you get a warehouse without having to build a data engineering team first.

Design

  • A review of the systems you run, the questions the business needs answered, and what data it would take to answer them
  • A layered design — raw, cleaned and business-ready (often called bronze, silver and gold) — so every figure can be traced back to its source
  • The right Fabric components for each job: Warehouse where SQL and structured models fit, Lakehouse where files, semi-structured data or notebooks do
  • Dimensional models built around the entities your business actually talks about: customers, orders, products, jobs, people
  • A capacity and licensing plan sized to your real workload, not a vendor’s upsell

Deployment

  • Ingestion from SQL Server, Azure SQL, Dynamics 365, SharePoint, Excel and CSV drops, SaaS APIs and older databases, using Data Factory pipelines, Dataflows Gen2, mirroring and OneLake shortcuts as each source suits
  • Incremental loads, so pipelines move only what changed rather than reloading everything nightly
  • Separate development, test and production workspaces, with Git integration and deployment pipelines so changes are reviewed and promoted rather than edited live
  • Security designed in from the start: workspace roles, row-level security, and sensitive data kept visible only to those who need it
  • Power BI semantic models in Direct Lake mode, reading straight from OneLake for fast reports without a separate import refresh to babysit

Where a source system is old, closed or has no API, we still get the data out — the same way we do for Legacy Application Support and Integration Pipes.

Maintenance, handled

A warehouse isn’t a one-off project. Sources change, new questions arrive and pipelines break at 3am. Ongoing maintenance is where Fabric Data Foundation earns its name:

  • Pipeline and refresh monitoring, with failures alerted to us and fixed before anyone opens a stale report
  • Data-quality checks that catch duplicates, gaps and out-of-range values before they reach a dashboard
  • Capacity monitoring, with workloads scheduled and tuned — and capacity paused or resized where it makes sense — so your Fabric bill stays predictable
  • New sources, tables and measures added through the same reviewed deployment process
  • Keeping up with Fabric’s own frequent platform changes, so you don’t have to
  • A named consultant who knows your data, and regular reviews of what’s being used and what isn’t

Built for the reporting on top

The warehouse exists to answer questions. We build the Power BI reports that sit on it, or hand clean, documented models to your own analysts — see Power BI Development. Everything is in your own Microsoft tenant, so you own the data, the models and the code outright.

Who this is for

Businesses whose reporting has outgrown spreadsheets and direct connections, that want a proper data warehouse on Microsoft’s platform — without hiring and retaining a data engineering team to build and run it.
